About Sigiriya Rock Fortress
A 5th-century rock citadel rising 200m above the jungle — a UNESCO World Heritage Site crowned by ancient frescoes and water gardens.
Sigiriya, the 'Lion Rock', was built by King Kashyapa as a fortified palace and pleasure garden. Climb past the mirror wall and the famous frescoes of the celestial maidens to the summit, where the ruins of the royal palace offer sweeping views over the Cultural Triangle. The surrounding water gardens are among the oldest landscaped gardens in the world.
